Basic Italic Calligraphy Lesson

The Italic hand or style is probably one of the most recognized and most versatile of all the calligraphy alphabets.

At some point I want to do video lessons for this alphabet, but until I find time to do that, head on over to the Basic Italic page which will give you a ductus for this alphabet.

A ductus, by the way, is a chart showing the order and direction of the strokes that form the letters.

If you're just starting with calligraphy, it would be a good idea to go through the series of introductory pages first, starting with Basic Supplies. Then just follow the links through at the bottoms of the pages back to this page.
